The method involves joining an adhesive-coated covering material (4) with cover paperboards (2) and a spine insert (3). Projecting covering material edges are placed and tamped by wrapping around paperboards edges. The material edges are wrapped on a head and a base in a head/base impact station (30). A spine (7) of a book cover (6) is rounded by a form bar with a contour corresponding to a spine curvature in a side impact station (33), where the form bar is movable in the spine with a defined stroke. The material edges are wrapped on sides of the book cover. An independent claim is also included for a device for manufacturing a book cover that is rounded in a book spine.
