This invention relates to a method and to an apparatus for extracting at leas one desired chemical from a solution. The apparatus has a first chamber into which a solution containing the desired chemical is introduced and a second chamber containing an adsorbent which is specific for the desired chemical an which adsorbs it thus facilitating its removal from the second chamber for analysis or the like. A liquid membrane which is permeable to the desired chemical but impermeable to the adsorbent and desired chemical complex separates the first and second chambers.
