A saw has table 4 rotatable about a vertical axis; mount 16 pivoting about a horizontal edge of table 4; a motor 20 secured to mount 16 pivotable towards or away from table 4; a saw blade 22 driven by motor 20; slot 26 in the table to receive part of blade 22 when it is in its lower position; a guard comprising front part 32, 34 and rear part 68, 70 both below upper part 30. The three guard parts and the slot entirely surround the blade when in its lowered position. The front and rear guard parts can be opposite side of fence 14 on the table. Ideally table 42 is fitted near the top of blade 22 so that an upper portion of the blade is used. In this mode of operation motor 20 is pivoted towards the lower table so that blade 22 is within slot 26 and may be locked in position by pin 160 on the bevel mount engaging groove 164 in the motor unit.
