A saw has table 4 rotatable about a vertical axis; bevel mount 16 pivoting about a horizontal edge of table 4; a motor 20 secured to mount 16 pivotable towards or away from table 4; a saw blade 22 driven by motor 20; a guard comprising rear part 68, 70 secured to mount 16 and fixed part 30 above. Ideally rear guard 68, 70 surrounds all of the blades cutting edge which is behind fence 14 on table 4 and below fixed guard 30, preferably in all positions of the motor relative to table 4 and fence 14. Part 70 of the rear guard could be rigidly connected to mount 16, to which part 68 could be pivotally connected. Pivoting part 70 may be biased towards fence 14, while rigid part 68 could be permanently above fence 14. The biasing could cause pivoting part 70 to move when table 4 rotates or bevel mount 16 is inclined. There can be a front guard 32, 34 opposite rear guard. A locking mechanism may prevent movement of pivoting part 70 for particular positions of the bevel mount relative to base 2 or table 4. |
