The present invention relates to a crash box 10 for arrangement between a bumper 40 and a longitudinal beam 30 of a motor vehicle body, wherein the box is arranged with a fastening section 11 at least partially overlapping a mount section (31, figure 4) of the longitudinal beam, and the box has a support element 12, which penetrates the fastening profile transversely to its longitudinal direction (x) and is able to be brought into abutment in a supporting manner with an end (33) of the mount section. The support element may comprise a transverse plate which has projections 14 which extend through apertures to either side of the box so as to contact either side of the end of the fastening section of the longitudinal beam. The crash box may be secured to the longitudinal beam by means of fastening elements passing through corresponding holes 24, 26 in each part. In the event of a collision the support element is intended to spread the load over a large area, and reduce the loading on the fastening elements.
