Cheques or football pool coupons are fed from a conveyer 7 to a rotating vacuum drum 9 which transports them past a sensing station 20 and on past sorting stations 15 arranged around the periphery of the drum. Drum 9 is provided with fixed shoes 21 in its interior to cut off the suction through perforations 14 in the vicinity of solenoid-actuated deflectors 16. The arms of deflectors 16 move into grooves in the drum surface to strip off the documents. Sensing may be magnetic or photo-electric. |
