A machine for producing bubble wrap is provided with a bubble-forming drum and feed drums around which a backing layer and a cushioning layer of plastic film are wound. Rollers are provided for stretching and reducing the thickness of the plastic films as they advance toward the bubble-forming drum and heaters are provided for heating the plastic films to a temperature at which bonding of the layers occurs upon contact with each other as they wind around the bubble-forming drum. A drive mechanism causes the bubble-forming drum to rotate and is the sole motivating force for causing the plastic films to unwind from the feed drums, to advance to the bubble-forming drum and to wind around the drum. |
