A method of recording distance travelled, comprising: using a satellite tracking device, which may be portable, to record location data comprising a sequence of vehicle locations; uploading the location data via a network to a remote database that may be hosted on a server; generating, from the location data, trip data comprising the trips undertaken by the vehicle; assigning at least one trip of the trip data as business related; and recording a travel claim on the remote database, based on the trip data that has been assigned as business or personal or private or non business related. The assignment may be performed automatically and the trip data may be analysed to assess risk associated with the vehicle trips, e.g. travel periods, types of roads, or for determining maintenance requirements. It may be implemented via a smartphone or tablet. |
