<p>Filtering is performed at an email server/provider to detect the presence and validity of an authorization code included with an incoming email destined for a target email address, Emails that have a valid authorisation code included for the target email address are forwarded to the email address. Emails that have no, or an incorrect, authorisation code are filtered (e.g. deleted) by the server/email provider without being delivered to the target email address/user. The arrangement is useful for filtering spam email such that an email address owner can selectively tell contacts his/her authorisation code and so only emails with that authorisation code are actually delivered to him/her, all other emails being deleted at the server. The email address owner can also change/update his/her authorisation code if it is found to have been compromised (e.g. he/she starts receiving spam emails) and the new code notified to his/her contacts. The alphanumeric authorisation code can be included at various parts of an email message including as part of the email address, for example at the end, or appended (Figure 12), to the destination email address, at the start (Figure 13) or end (Figure 14) of the subject line of the email or as part of a dedicated separate field for authorisation codes (Figure 11).</p> |
