The bollard 1 comprises a hollow body 2, an illuminator part 3 for generating light, such as LEDs 4, and directing the light along the hollow of the bollard body and an optical concentrator 9. The concentrator defines an optical waveguide at least a part of which is photoluminescent and is presented within the bollard body to receive said light and to generate luminescent light in response thereto. The optical concentrator is arranged to waveguide the luminescent light to an optical output part thereof which is exposed at an external surface of the bollard body to provide a concentrated external output of luminescent light thereat. The bollard may be telescopic with an inner part slidably movable relative to an outer part. The concentrator may include a fluorescent dye 7, dopant, or an optically transparent material bearing a phosphorescent coating. The concentrator may be formed from polymethyl-methacrylate. |
