<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly determine that the output shaft of a motor abuts on a mechanical stopper and the operation of the motor is stopped. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This variable nozzle control device of a turbocharger includes an electronically-controlled actuator for controlling the opening of the vanes of the variable nozzle of the turbocharger by controlling the rotating angle of the rotating shaft of the motor based on a control signal from the engine control device for controlling the driving of an engine having a turbocharger with a variable nozzle. The variable nozzle control device includes an angle sensor for detecting the rotating angle of the rotating shaft, an expected arrival position calculation means for calculating a rotating angle at which the rotating angle of the rotating shaft of the motor running at a specified speed must arrive after a predetermined time, and a determination means which compares, after a predetermined time, the output value of the angle sensor and the value of a rotating angle at which the rotating angle must arrive, which was calculated by the predicted arrival position calculation means, and if they do not match each other, determines that the rotating shaft abuts on the mechanical stopper and stopped.
