Cooling of an axial compressor

The compressor (2) has a coolant supply channel (80) guided in a flow direction of a flow medium (S) of a compressor stator blade (24) that is arranged before a rear compressor disk (66). The coolant supply channel is attached at a stator blade carrier (26), and ends at a head end (36) of the stator blade via an exhaust port (94) in a hollow space (70) lying between the compressor disk and another rear compressor disk (64). The hollow space is connected with a rear hollow space (78) via a coolant transfer port (100), which is guided through the former compressor disk. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an axial compressor.
