<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device, an electronic apparatus and a projection type display device capable of further improving contrast by optimizing a tilt direction of a phase difference compensation element in which an optical axis has refractive index anisotropy of negative uniaxial properties along the thickness direction in accordance with the tilt direction of a liquid crystal molecule. <P>SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal device 3, when a tilt direction in which a liquid crystal molecule 33B is inclined has an azimuth of 45° or 135°in a counterclockwise direction with respect to a direction in which a wire grid 10b of a wire grid polarization beam splitter 10 extends in viewing a liquid crystal panel 11 from the wire grid polarization beam splitter 10 side, a phase difference compensation element 12 in which an optical axis has refractive index anisotropy of negative uniaxial properties along the thickness direction is inclined in the same direction as the tilt direction, and when the tilt direction has an azimuth of 225° or 315°, the phase difference compensation element 12 is inclined in a direction opposite to the tilt direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
