PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cesium contaminated soil surface solidification method which is effective for cesium contamination, cesium solidification/insolubilization method, soil solidification agent used therefor, cesium removal method and magnesium-oxide based adsorbent used therefor.

SOLUTION: Magnesium oxide is sprinkled over the surface of soil on which cesium has been diffused, and the soil surface is solidified. Furthermore, magnesium oxide is mixed into cesium containing soil, and cesium is solidified/insolubilized. Moreover, a magnesium-oxide based adsorbent containing magnesium oxide as a constituent substance is brought into contact with contaminated water containing cesium, and cesium is adsorbed. In such a case, an inorganic compound and a thickener are added to contaminated soil or contaminated water as needed.
