<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a multi-can installed boiler from decreasing in total efficiency, the decreasing is caused by that the number of boilers in operation is larger more than needs at an initial start, and many boilers burn with low loads. <P>SOLUTION: In the multi-can installed boiler, a plurality of boilers 1 adjusted in steps in combustion amount like high combustion, low combustion, and combustion waiting, or high combustion, intermediate combustion, low combustion, and combustion waiting, are installed, and the combustion amounts of the respective boilers are controlled so that pressure values of steam that the boilers 1 supply are held in the range of a pressure adjustment. In control of the number of boilers, a combustion amount increase/decrease of each boiler is prioritized to decrease a frequency of increase/decrease in the number of boilers in operation, and the number of boilers to be operated at the initial start is limited.
