PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical device that can appropriately adjust skew even when an amount of rotation in a sub-scanning direction of an optical member increases.

SOLUTION: A positional displacement in a sub-scanning direction of a scan line is corrected by rotating an optical member by a stepping motor. At this time, an amount of rotation of the optical member for correcting the positional displacement is controlled by the number of steps of the stepping motor. In converting the number of steps of the stepping motor from an amount of the positional displacement, a conversion factor is changed in accordance with the integrated number of steps of the stepping motor from a reference position of the optical member.
