<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute a density adjustment for reading density of a patch image on a photoreceptor or an intermediate transfer body, and a density adjustment for reading density of a patch image transferred on a transfer sheet, at appropriate frequency, to minimize waste of transfer sheets and deterioration of productivity. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus forms an image by exposing a photoreceptor from an exposing part, and transfers the image on a transfer sheet from the photoreceptor. An image forming control method which accompanies density adjustments in the image forming apparatus includes a first density adjustment for forming a patch image at predetermined density on the photoreceptor and controlling image forming conditions on the basis of a density detection result of the patch image by a sensor before transfer to the transfer sheet, and a second density adjustment for forming the patch image at the predetermined density on the photoreceptor and controlling image forming conditions on the basis of a density detection result of the patch image transferred to the transfer sheet by the sensor.
