<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable image forming apparatus capable of reducing CPP (Cost per Paper). <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes: a fixation surface side member which contacts with an image forming surface of a sheet having a toner image formed thereon by an image forming part; a back surface side supporting member which is pressed against the fixation surface side member, and contacts with a back surface of the sheet; a heat source which supplies heat to the sheet via the fixation surface side member; an air separation part which discharges compressed air supplied from an air supply source onto a surface of the fixation surface side member to separate the sheet from the fixation surface side member; and a control part which controls a pressure accumulation operation in the air supply source.
