PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the time period needed for a data gathering device to gather data from wireless mesh communication network nodes.

SOLUTION: A data gathering device executes the steps of: acquiring for each route a metric representing the reliability level of the route concerned; determining a first scheduling sequence for gathering data according to the acquired metric; transmitting a request to nodes according to the first scheduling sequence; updating at least one of the metrics according to a change in transmission conditions; updating the first scheduling sequence according to the updated metrics to obtain a second scheduling sequence; and continuing to transmit a request to nodes according to the second scheduling sequence.
