A device for providing a coded signal on a number of leads e.g. for a tape punch, from a typewriter or calculating machine keyboard includes a number of selector relay R 1 -R 5 , R 34 , R 35 having parallel, branched energizing circuits 22, 30, 31, 24, 25, 33, 34, 35, 36 in which are arranged a plurality of break contacts in series, the arrangement being such that when a character or function key is depressed one, or at most two, break contacts are opened to de-energize one or more of relays R 1 -R 35 and energize corresponding solenoids 55- 59 of the tape punch. For example key "E" opens contact E, Fig. 3 to de-energize R 1 and close contacts r 1 R 1 , r 2 R 1 , the former operating an impulse relay Imp and the latter completing the energizing circuit of solenoid 55. Key "B" opens contacts B 1 , Fig. 3 and B 2 , Fig. 2 so that relays R 1 , R 4 , R 5 are de-energized and solenoids 55, 58, 59 operated. Relays 34, 35 cause solenoids 57, 58 and 58, 59 to be energized together. De-energizing any of relays R 1 -R 35 completes the operating circuit of relay Imp which supplies current to the punch solenoids 55-59 selected over contacts r 2 Imp and energizes a single revolution clutch 66 of the punch over contacts r 3 Imp. Relays R 1 -R 35 are quick-to-release and slow to operate thereby giving a constant impulsing time for solenoids 55-59. The break contacts are preferably operated directly by a lever arm which is connected to a type-bar drive of the associated key. |
