摘要 Disclosed are a method and system for controlling network congestion. When signaling congestion occurs in a Machine Type Communications-InterWorking Function (MTC IWF), a Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) network and an MTC server are notified of the congestion in real time according to a congestion mechanism. The 3GPP network and the MTC server suspend or reject a non-emergent signaling message from an MTC UE of a low priority or a common MTC UE. In this way, emergent signaling is ensured to be handled in real time, and the MTC IWF is prevented from receiving and handling plenty of signaling during the congestion to aggravate the congestion. Besides, the enhanced MTC architecture can effectively cope with a scenario of plenty of concurrent signaling streams, thereby ensuring real-time data communication between the MTC UE and the MTC server, and satisfying the requirements of Internet of Things services.
