The equine snaffle bit has two lateral parts (20, 22) and a shackle (24) disposed between said lateral parts (20, 22). The shackle (24) has either one or two joints (26, 28) and comprises two lateral sections (26, 27), and optionally a middle section (32). Each lateral section (26, 27) has one end that is distal to the at least one joint (26, 28), and in each of those ends there is a joint bore for receiving one of the lateral parts (20, 22) in an articulated manner. A sheath (28) consisting of a rubber-like material surrounds the shackle (24) for a portion of the overall length of the shackle (24). The sheath (28) has two end regions (30), and each end region (30) is fixedly connected to the associated lateral section (26, 27). The distance between the end region (30) and the adjacent joint bore is the same for both lateral sections (20, 22).
