FIELD: agriculture.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the method for screening of population of leaf vegetable plants for presence of species that demonstrate low sensitivity to ethylene and physiological disturbances, in particular, to Brown Patch and Yellowing compared to a reference plant. The method includes couching of seed population in the darkness and in presence of ethylene to produce seedlings, selection of seedlings with a longer hypocotyl hook compared to the initial ethylene-sensitive reference, self-fertilisation of seedlings to produce seeds, couching of seeds, measurement of relative growth of hypocotyl hooks of seedlings and testing of plants identified as showing lower sensitivity to ethylene for resistance to brown patch and/or yellowing.
