GE-P CO-DOPED MULTIMODE OPTICAL FIBER

According to at least one embodiment a graded index multimode fiber (10) comprises: (i) a silica based core (20) co-doped with Ge02 and 1 to 12 mole % P20s; the core (20) having a dual alpha, alpha 1 and alpha 2, where 1.8 <= alpha1 <= 2.4 and 1.9 < alpha2 <= 2.4 at the wavelength (lambda) range between 840 and 1100 nm; and (ii) a silica based cladding region (200) surrounding the core, wherein the fiber has a numerical aperture NA and 0.185 < NA < 0.25 (more preferably 0.185 <= NA <= 0.23). Preferably, the silica based cladding region (200) surrounding the core (20) has refractive index lower than that of pure silica.
