<p>Binder comprises a polymeric product of a carbohydrate reactant and a nucleophile. Binder comprises a polymeric product of a carbohydrate reactant and a nucleophile having a structure of formula (R1-Q-R2). Q : alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl or cycloheteroalkyl (each being optionally substituted with nucleophilic portion and stabilizer); R1 : amine, azide, cyanate, isocyanate, thiol, disulfide, thiocyanate, halo, haloformyl, carboxyl, carboxylate, OH or alkoxide; and R2 : amine, amide, imine, imide, nitro, nitrate, pyridine, phosphate, phosphono, OH, H, sulfono, sulfo, sulfinyl or sulfhydryl. Independent claims are included for: (1) preparing array of materials bound with a polymeric binder, comprising preparing a solution containing the reactants to produce the polymeric binder and a solvent, where the reactants comprise the carbohydrate reactants and nucleophile, deposing the solution onto the material, volatilizing the solvent to form an uncured product, and subjecting the uncured product to conditions that cause polymerization of the carbohydrate reagent and nucleophile to form the polymer binder; and (2) a composition comprising the array of materials and the binder, where the polymeric products are insoluble in water.</p> |
