Disclosed are a method and system for setting the valid time of trigger information. The method includes: an MTC server sending to a 3GPP network trigger information containing the valid time thereof; the 3GPP network selecting the manner to transmit the trigger information within the valid time of the trigger information and forwarding the trigger information to MTC user equipment, with the valid time being all the time when the trigger information is located in the 3GPP network; and the MTC user equipment receiving the trigger information and sending an acknowledge message to the MTC server. In the present invention, by way of setting the association relationship between the valid time of the trigger information and a network node in the 3GPP network, the 3GPP network can learn whether it is necessary to send corresponding trigger information to MTC user equipment, and the MTC server can learn whether the sending of the trigger information by the 3GPP network is successful, so as to decide to trigger corresponding MTC user equipment again. The present invention solves the problem that the processing method of the valid time in the existing MTC system is ambiguous.
