<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multimode optical fiber capable of expanding a communication band and being stably manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: A multimode optical fiber includes a core part with a diameter 2a in which GeO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>and chlorine are doped. A chlorine concentration distribution 250 in the core part is the minimum at the center of the core part and is the maximum within a range separated by 1.0a from a distance 0.9a in the radial direction from the center of the core part. In the core part, the chlorine concentration is intentionally controlled so as to demonstrate especially significant changes in an annular region surrounding the center of the core part which is a peripheral region including the outer periphery of the core part where variations in GeO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>doping concentration are particularly large. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
