PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode active material and a lithium battery employing the same material.

SOLUTION: According to the negative electrode active material and the lithium battery employing the negative electrode active material, the negative electrode active material can control an expansion coefficient to give conductivity and resulting in improving charge and discharge efficiency and cycle life characteristics of the lithium battery by containing a primary particle in which an amorphous carbon based coating layer is coated on a crystalline carbon based core having a silicon based nano-wire disposed on a surface thereof so as not to expose at least a part of the silicon based nano-wire.
