<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can perform an initial operation that prevents a cutter unit and a carriage from coming into contact with each other when the power supply of the image forming apparatus is in an on-state. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises: a carriage which is mounted with a recording head to be reciprocated in a width direction of a sheet; and a sheet cutting device including a cutter unit which is configured to hold a cutter and to be movable in the width direction of the sheet and which is arranged so that a movement area of the cutter overlaps a movement area of the carriage in a thickness direction of the sheet. The image forming apparatus comprises: a first detection part and a second detection part which are configured to detect the position of the cutter unit; and a control part which can perform a cutter initial operation which, when the power supply is in the on-state, move the cutter unit to a cutter home position. The cutter unit, after cutting the sheet, is movable in the width direction of the sheet while being retracted from a sheet feed path in the thickness direction of the sheet, and the control part determines whether or not to perform the cutter initial operation based on detection results of the first and second detection parts. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
