<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wiping material for a mop, and the mop in which wiping strings are hardly tangled, the necessity for detangling the multiple wiping strings is small, and the wiping strings hardly knot when wiping a surface to be cleaned, achieving smooth operation. <P>SOLUTION: The wiping material W for the mop is formed by connecting a pair of base parts of wiping string W1 groups constituted of multiple wiping strings W1 arranged substantially in parallel. A part at which the pair of base parts of the wiping string W1 groups in the wiping material W for the mop is held by a holding body H. The wiping string W1 includes: one core material C; and two string bodies S1, S2. The core material C has a thread shape constituted of multiple loop parts L which are adjacent in the longitudinal direction, and are arranged with a given length. The thread shape is repeated for each loop part L in every two loop parts L in the core material C. One of the string body S1 is inserted from one side to the other side.
