<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument in an endoscopic instrument, which has a sealing element formed in a shaft. <P>SOLUTION: The surgical instrument 10 with a long shaft 11 has in the shaft 11 a sealing element 34 which is generated by primary molding at the installation location. Preferably, the sealing element 34 is formed by the shaft 11 first any one or more actuating means 29, 29a, 29b are mounted and held in place, after which a curable plastic material of which the sealing element 34 is formed, in that the shaft 11 is injected in that the material surrounds the actuating element 11 and the passage of the shaft 11 locked to a length which is preferably greater than the internal diameter and shorter than its length.
