<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing adjusting device that can change an opening/closing timing of an intake valve with a small amount of current while an engine is stopped. <P>SOLUTION: At S103, a crankshaft angle, a camshaft angle, an oil temperature, and a water temperature when the engine is stopped are detected. At S104, based on the camshaft angle, the oil temperature, and the water temperature, cam torque necessary for changing from a current camshaft angle to a target camshaft angle is calculated. At S105, friction torque in a phase adjusting unit is calculated based on the crankshaft angle, the camshaft angle, the oil temperature, and the water temperature. At S106, a motor output torque is calculated based on the calculated cam torque and the friction torque. At S107, a current flow duty ratio is calculated based on the calculated motor output torque. At S108, a current corresponding to the calculated current flow duty ratio is fed to the motor.
