<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element and a photoelectrochemical cell which have improved ε on the long wavelength side and realizes high heat resistance and durability, and a pigment used in those element and cell. <P>SOLUTION: In a photoelectric conversion element having a laminate structure composed of a photoreceptor layer including a layer of semiconductor particulates with pigments adsorbed therein, a charge transfer layer, and a counter electrode which are each disposed on the upper side of a conductive support body, the photoelectric conversion element is a metal complex pigment where the adsorbed pigment is expressed by the formula (1) below.
