<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating liquid with high stability in manufacturing a lithium ion battery separator with a high heat resistance, and a low-resistance lithium ion battery separator arranged so that the powder falling of a layer including alumina hydrate, binder polymer, a water-soluble dispersant is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The coating liquid for a lithium ion battery separator comprises: alumina hydrate; aqueous fluid dispersion of binder polymer; and aqueous solution of dispersant. The alumina hydrate forms a single particle of boehmite having an average particle size of 2.0 μm or less, a specific surface area of 40 m<SP POS="POST">2</SP>/g or less, and an aspect ratio below 5.
