The analytical and medical handheld device has a replaceable test band cartridge (18), which has multiple analytical aids (22) provided with a test band (20), transmissions (34,36) coupled to direct current motor (30) and a band drive (14) with the test band cartridge. The band drive is provided for supplying the analytical aid. A regulating unit (16) is provided for regulating the speed of the direct current motor. The regulating unit has a speed sensor (38) arranged at the direct current motor. The speed sensor is provided for detecting the actual speed of a motor output shaft (32). An independent claim is included for a method for operating an analytical handset.
