The method involves arranging a component (2) in a hot gas test stand. The component is heated and cooled in an alternative manner using a hot gas stream and a cold gas stream, respectively in a given cycle. Exhaust gas temperature determination, form measurement and visual judgement of a coating (3) on the component are performed in a region of the coating on the component during the cycle or after the cycle, where gas temperature is determined using two flow temperature sensors that are arranged in a guide device (6) i.e. funnel-shaped adapter. An independent claim is also included for a device for checking a coating applied on a component.
