PURPOSE: A video intra prediction method and a device thereof are provided to reduce the complexity of a reference pixel determination process by replacing the surrounding pixels for unavailable surrounding pixels by searching for the surrounding pixels based on a predetermined search direction. CONSTITUTION: An availability determining unit determines the availability of the surrounding pixels used for the intra prediction of current blocks(2610). When there is a first unavailable surrounding pixel, a replacing unit searches surrounding pixels in a predetermined direction to search for a second available pixel(2620). The replacing unit replaces a pixel value of the second surrounding pixel for a pixel value of the first surrounding pixel(2630). An intra prediction predicting unit performs the intra prediction of the current block by using the surrounding pixels including the first surrounding pixel(2640).
