The coupling system has latch elements (51) provided in an area of free ends of holding bars directed away from a connection point. The bars include a front support surface running parallel to a plane formed by a triangle. The bars exhibit an L-shaped cross-section when viewed in an extension direction of the bars. The latch elements are extended away from the front support surface over an edge of a side piece of each bar. Latch devices (19, 21) engaged with the latch elements are provided at a vehicle coupling element (1) in the area of the free ends of the bars.
