PURPOSE: Systems for obtaining and using non-volatile memory state information and methods thereof are provided to effectively obtain and use state information of a flash memory and different non-volatile memories by using the unique features of the flash memory. CONSTITUTION: A memory controller(106) is connected to non-volatile memories(128a-128n) through a first bus to be communicated. A host device(102) comprises a storage component(134). The host device is connected to the memory controller through a second bus to be communicated. The host device maintains a state information database for the non-volatile memories in the storage component and provides commands to the memory controller through the second bus. The state information database stores address assignment state information. The memory controller extracts the address assignment state information from the commands and executes an access request corresponding to the address assignment state information.
