The device (10) has an input and output unit (12) for inputting and outputting valuable notes, and a sensor unit (14) for determining denomination of the notes. A transport unit (24) transports the notes, and a collecting receptacle (16) accommodates the notes. A control unit (26) assigns the notes to the input and output unit, the receptacle and one of recycling receptacles (18, 20) based on the denomination. The control unit determines which note is removed from the recycling receptacles and outputted over the input and output unit based on a predetermined disbursement algorithm.
