<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that resets a discharge-free, appropriate AC voltage to be applied to a developing roller for image formation, within a short time without hindering user's use even if there is any change due to aging. <P>SOLUTION: An AC voltage application part 86 applies an AC voltage to a developing roller 81, the AC voltage having an inter-peak voltage having an inter-peak voltage set value for easy discharge detection. If a control section 10 recognizes a discharge in this case, the control section 10 causes the AC voltage application part 86 to apply an AC voltage to the developing roller 81, the AC voltage having an inter-peak voltage smaller than the inter-peak voltage set value for easy discharge detection. If the control section 10 recognizes a discharge during the application, the control section 10 resets an AC voltage to be applied to the developing roller 81 for image formation, based on the inter-peak voltage smaller than the inter-peak voltage of the AC voltage applied immediately before.
