PURPOSE: A motor driving apparatus for converting commonly used AC(Alternating Current) power to DC(Direct Current) power and a cleaner including the same are provided to drive a motor by converting the commonly used AC power to the DC power. CONSTITUTION: A motor driving apparatus includes a converter(710), a smoothing capacitor(c), a battery(740), and an inverter(720). The converter converts commonly used AC power into DC power. The smoothing capacitor stores converted DC power. The battery is charged by using the DC power stored in the smoothing capacitor. In case the DC power stored in the smoothing capacitor is supplied or the DC power stored in the battery is supplied, the inverter drives a motor by converting the DC power into AC power in a pulse-width modulating mode.
