PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for detecting a vehicle using a thermal image are provided to improve efficiency by easily identifying and tracking the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A camera is installed around a road and photographs a driving space of the vehicle with an thermal image. A data input unit(110) receives the thermal image. A pattern information unit(140) patterns a specific temperature distribution of an engine and a glass window. A vehicle sensing unit includes a vehicle recognizing unit(130).
