The seat belt system (10) has a seat belt height adjuster comprising a carriage (14) that is movable with respect to a column (12). The height adjuster is actuated by a height adjuster drive (24) through a power transmitting unit (22). A length-compensation unit (32) is provided between height adjuster drive and the carriage. The length of force transmission unit is adjusted by the length-compensation unit while changing the distance between the drive and the carriage.
