A method for controlling communication in a communication system in which a mobile terminal forms an ad hoc network together with a first gateway terminal. A second gateway terminal is retrieved that is an adjacent gateway terminal adjacent to the first gateway terminal. An adjacent terminal information table is created or updated, indicating the first gateway terminal, the second gateway terminal, and a location registration area including the first gateway terminal and the second gateway terminal, on the basis of information about the first gateway terminal and information about the second gateway terminal. The first gateway terminal and the second gateway terminal are grouped into a group on the basis of a result of the retrieving. The location registration area is assigned to the group to transmit the assigned location registration area information to the mobile terminal as location registration area information. A location registration signal is transmitted to the first gateway terminal from the mobile terminal, only when the location registration area of the mobile terminal is changed.
