The device has a crash element (7) extended along length of a door (8) of a motor car (1). An end of the crash element is pushed against a vehicle column (2) in an event of crash. The end of the crash element comprises a wedge-shaped projection. The vehicle column comprises a receptacle for receiving the projection in a length-wise manner during the event of crash. The projection and the receptacle are formed such that the crash element is positively held at the vehicle column in a direction transverse to a longitudinal extension of the crash element during the event of crash. The receptacle is formed as an aperture in a side wall of the vehicle column. The vehicle column is designed as an A-column. The crash element is designed as a crash pipe or a bar with U-shaped cross-section.
