Mixer and improved method of manufacture

A method of manufacturing an industrial mixer comprising the steps of: delineating the outlines of various components in metal platens wherein these components include first and second end walls of a mixer, first and second end wall bracing elements and support feet for the mixer; separating the components so delineated; co-joining the first and second end walls with a lower trough member of semi­circular cross-section such that opposite ends of the lower trough member are received in slots of the first and second end walls; and assembling the lower trough member between the first and second end walls. The method further includes the step of securing a spindle in bearings provided on the first and second end walls; and, mounting a motor on the first end wall for rotation of the spindle. The first and second end walls and the lower tough member are secured by seam welding on the inner and outer surfaces of the elements. The support feet and bracing elements for the first and second end walls are also fixed in situ by seam welding. The metal platen is ideally formed of stainless steel and has a thickness between 5mm and 8mm in thickness.
