The appliance (1) has a handle (10) i.e. bar handle, for opening a cooking appliance door (5) i.e. swingable downwardly openable flap. The handle comprises a guide for guiding an actuator (30), which is adjustable according to cooking conditions e.g. nature of heat, of the appliance. The handle is provided with a sliding surface for slidable mounting of the actuator along an outer surface of the handle. The guide enables movements of the actuator in two different directions. Switches are provided independent of the actuator in a region of the handle to switch on and off the appliance.
