A vehicle control device includes a diesel engine 1, a motor 5 configured to drive a vehicle, a generator 2 configured to generate alternating-current power with an output of the diesel engine 1, a power storage device 6 configured to charge and discharge direct-current power, a converter 3 configured to convert the alternating-current power generated by the generator 2 into direct-current power and output the direct-current power, and an inverter 4 configured to convert the direct-current power discharged by the power storage device 6 or the direct-current power output by the converter 3 to drive the motor 5. The converter 3 operates as an inverter during a breakdown of the inverter 4 and drives the motor 5. |
