PURPOSE: An air conditioner is provided to improve cooling performance by increasing heat absorbed in a heat exchanger as an over-cooled refrigerant flows into an evaporator. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner comprises one or more indoor units(21,22) and an outdoor unit(10). The outdoor unit includes a compressor, an outdoor heat exchanger, an over-cooling unit(160), a first refrigerant pipe(170), a first valve, a second refrigerant pipe, and a second valve. The over-cooling unit cools a refrigerant. The first refrigerant pipe connects the over-cooling unit to an inlet of the compressor. In a first refrigerant flow mode, the second refrigerant pipe connects a heavy pressure terminal to the first refrigerant pipe. The refrigerant flows from the over-cooling unit to the compressor through the second refrigerant pipe. In a second refrigerant flow mode, the refrigerant compressed by the compressor is discharged to the second refrigerant pipe.
